Snow accumulations may have done some good for area farmers concerned about water following last summer’s drought, said Jim Fawcett, ISU extension office field agronomist. While Fawcett says the recent snows may have helped replenish streams and ponds, it is unlikely that the accumulation will greatly increase soil moisture.

Fawcett also stated that he believes that this area is in better shape than northwest Iowa, concerning soil moisture. He advised the people get crop insurance, to reduce the effects of potentially experiencing another drought.
