The Washington Demon soccer team will start their season tonight with a tough matchup against Columbus Junction.
The Demons went 0-9 last year under a very senior heavy team, but this year they have a new coach, and a new mindset.
The Demons played the Wildcats first out of the gate last year and lost 14-1.
Washington lost a lot of their seniors, and will look to Mason Quigley to help lead the team.
Columbus brings back most of their team into this season, as they had a good balance of school year represented last year.
Demon head soccer coach Steve Caulk said its never easy starting with such a good team, and that teamwork is best for success.
“I think the key is really going to be working together, we’ve worked a lot on formation, and I think we can put in a strong showing [today] as long as our athletes really stay together, they stay in their formation, we don’t have people running all over the field, which was a real problem last year,” Caulk said. “As long as we can stay calm, and as long as we can stay in a formation that we were talking about, I think we can be successful.”
Washington and Columbus kickoff tonight at 4:30 at Columbus.
