Ag Land Values Set to Rise

Agricultural land values are expected to rise significantly this year, explained Christy Tinnes, Washington County Assessor, at last week’s board of supervisors meeting. She stated that there was an overall 37-percent increase on ag land in Washington County, which includes land and buildings. She said it is not based on market value, but a five year productivity formula.

Also, landowners will not pay taxes on the entire increase, because there is a rollback in place and other entities set tax rates, such as school districts. Overall, statewide, the value for ag properties is expected to increase 42-percent.
