While winds reached the upper teens, temperatures dipped to the lower 30’s and rain and sleet fell from the sky, golf courses found golfers slim to none. But that didn’t stop the Columbus Junction Wildcat Invitational from still braving the elements, and adding more than just a couple new obstacles to the golf meet.
At the meet Columbus Junction finished second with 345 strokes, WMU with third with 356, and Mid-Prairie was 11th with 396.
Zac Howell was the low score for Columbus with an 84, placing him fourth overall.
WMU got an 84 from Jake Edward for their low score of the day, and Mid-Prairie had Trever Owens shoot a 90 for low score on the team.
Mid-Prairie head coach Nate Strabala said when you play in conditions like this, golf is the last thing on your mind.
“It was the worst weather we played in all year, it was mid-30’s and sleeting for some of the round,” Strabala said. “It’s just hard for the kids to get comfortable in that kind of atmosphere, they start to think more about how cold their hands or how hard the winds blowing, rather than their task at hand.”
The Golden Hawks travel to West Liberty on Thursday and Columbus goes to Clear Creek Amana on Thursday as well.
