The Washington boy’s ran in windy, rainy and not very spring like conditions last night for their last chance meet, the WACO boys were also in attendance.
Washington had two gold medals come their way, in the 4×100 meter relay, with a time of 46.38, and a team of Carl Sivels, Gage Redlinger, Kyle Roder and Austin Witt, and Jose Tapia won the 100 meter dash in a time of 11.68.
Head coach Steve Roth said the conditions last night were horrible, but they had to give the kids a chance to qualify. He added that some teams did use the meet to their advantage and qualify, but that this is a situation where he looks toward the future of the team.
“Not many state championships are won in April, but there are a lot lost because of injury,” Roth said. “I’ve really sat on my kids since a couple of them got hurt, and Tuesday was an outstanding night, but last night wasn’t good for anything. There were a couple of teams that really stepped up and qualified, but it’s been terrible out, this is the worst one I’ve seen in a long, long time, and it’s too bad because I have a lot of nice kids, and they’ve kept their composure and they didn’t complain or anything, and that is all I can ask.”
WACO’s best finish was Kevin Anderson in the high jump finishing second at 5’10”. Braden Blake and Klinton Garrett also went second and third in the 800 meter run.
This meet wraps up the Drake relays qualifications, check back to KCIIradio.com for the area qualifiers.
