The boys half of the Washington and Mid-Prairie double header in Wellman Tuesday night was controlled by Mid-Prairie from start to finish with the Hawks posting a 5-0 win. Mid-Prairie got on the board in the 23rd minute when an Eesaa Baylor header found the back of the net. Three minutes later it was all-state candidate Austin Errthum beating the keeper to make the score 2-0. Errthum made it 3-0 Mid-Prairie in the 35th minute with a penalty kick goal after being taken down in the box. One minute after the Errthum PK goal Wyatt Cady beat the Washington keeper to make it 4-0 Hawks at the half.

The second half saw a lot of Mid-Prairie chances but not much change on the scoreboard. Mid-Prairie got another insurance tally from Cady in the 58th minute to push the score to 5-0. After the game Mid-Prairie Head Coach Pat Cady spoke about his teams effort.

“We talked about how the wind was going to be a big issue, which it was, we had it the first half and we got the four goals, we had to tell our backs that you have to watch your back because they’re going to try and play the balls deep,” Cady said. “Then they have to have full body on the ball on the way back so we at least make sure we get the ball deflected, or played back the opposite director so we make sure that we don’t get the ball countered on us.”

With the win Mid-Prairie is now 2-2 on the season and will next be in action at #2 Iowa City Regina on Friday, while Washington falls to 0-2 and plays Fairfield tomorrow.
