Highland high school will host a track meet tonight, but this is not just a track meet, as Highland will be unveiling their brand new track for the inaugural Highland Invite.

Head coach Dan Dickel said that when he was the football coach in the 90’s the track team was paired with Lone Tree, and when Highland decided to make their own track team, they practiced on the street, side walks, or anywhere they could, but they had no track.

DIckel added that the team still competed very well despite not having a track, and the most exciting moment was when one relay went all the way.

“We’ve had some great success doing it that way, including probably the highlight, the 4×200 girls state championship, just a few short years ago,” Dickel said. “So I think everybody saw that Highland was very capable of having a very outstanding track program and having a track is just part of that.”

Highland’s meet tonight starts at 5.
