Iowa Mennonite School is preparing to harness solar energy to supply a portion of the campus’s power. The project began two years ago when Dick Yoder’s physics class installed a small ten panel system. During IMS’s Interterm Week last month, a group of students led by Yoder put in a larger 210 panel system. Yoder says wiring still needs to be done, but they could be in use as early as next week. He adds the panels will provide a quarter to a third of the school’s power.

Funding has come from a low interest loan made possible by Iowa’s State Energy Fund, a Farmers Electric grant, and grants.
