On the nicest day for golf of the spring sports season the Lone Tree boys golf team scored a close
win over visiting IMS Thursday night at HiPoint Golf Course in Iowa City. The Lions were winners by a 197-205 count. This was the first outing for the Lone Tree boys in two weeks. After the meet Lone Tree Head Coach Kelby Bender talked about getting back into a routine of consistency on the course

“It was almost like our first meet again, because we haven’t played for two weeks, I was hoping that we could just get out and play consistent, and our top guys come in with a 43 and 44,” Bender said. “With the nice weather they were excited and wanted to score good, so they took their time and concentrated and they had some good rounds today.”

Lone Tree was led by meet medalist Andy Dodson who fired a 43. Dodson spoke after the meet about
the part of his game that is working well at this point in the year.

“My short game within about 100 yards, it is working pretty well right now,” Dodson said. “I’m getting shots to sit like I’m wanting them to, it is just working perfectly right now, hopefully I can keep this going.”

Other Lions in the top 4 included Levi Saterfield as medalist runner-up with his 44, James Lorack at 52 and Thomas Tryon with a 58. IMS was led by Tanner Leyden at 45, Brent Brenneman’s 49, Thaddeus Yoder’s 53 and Zach Hill’s 58. IMS Coach Steve Nelson commented after the meet about his team’s continued improvement.

“This is our lowest nine hole meet, we shot 205, and that’s the lowest of the year, and we continue to shoot lower and lower each meet, and I just see the consistency coming around,” Nelson said. “This will be a good confidence booster as we move forward, to see that we can compete more and have a chance to win some of the these meets.”

Iowa Mennonite will next be in action at the Mid-Prairie Invite Tuesday while Lone Tree travels to English Valley Monday.
