Marion Schiebel

Marion Arlene Schiebel, age 91, of Washington, Iowa, died Monday, April 08, 2013, at the Halcyon House in Washington following a brief illness.

Celebration of life services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 12, 2013 at the United Presbyterian Church in Washington with Pastor Bob Spilger officiating. Visitation will begin noon Friday at the United Presbyterian Church where the family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. Friday. The family will also be receiving friends at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home from 4-6pm on Thursday in addition to the visitation period at the church. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa.  Memorials have been established for the American Cancer Society or the Halcyon House Good Samaritan Fund. Marion was born August 26, 1921 in Keokuk County, Iowa the daughter of Joseph and Ethel (Moody) Myers.  She graduated from Kinross High School in Kinross, Iowa.  On August 17, 1940, Marion was united in marriage to Richard Schiebel in Davenport, Iowa.

Marion helped her husband on the family farming operation.  She also taught swim lessons at the Washington Community Y and helped teach swim lessons for Red Cross at the Community Pool.  Marion enjoyed riding her motorcycle and playing BINGO at Halcyon House and Central Park Community Center.  She enjoyed working on puzzles and “refunding”, where she collected money for the Washington Community Y.

She is survived by her son, Joe Schiebel and wife Bobbie of Washington, Iowa; son, Jim Schiebel and wife Lynn of Newton, Iowa; son, Jerry Schiebel and wife Janet of Washington, Iowa; daughter, Janet Stewart of Iowa City, Iowa; nine grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; one brother, Raymond Myers of Clinton, Iowa; and former son-in-law, William Stewart of Washington, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1998, one sister, Janene Adam, one infant grandson, Tony Schiebel and one great grandson, Taron Schiebel.
