The boy’s and girl’s track meet at Williamsburg tonight that the Demons were scheduled to run at has been canceled.
This is the sixth total outdoor track and field meet that has been canceled or postponed for the Demons, giving them only five meets before the Drake Relays, and only about four meets to qualify.
Washington will be running this Thursday, as they host the Demon Relays, which will also be the run down cancer event, that will raise awareness of cancer as well as raise money for the American Cancer Society and Relay for Life.
Boy’s head coach Steve Roth said this is something that has been planned for awhile, and that it is a way for the track and field team to give back.
“The basketball [team] and the wrestlers do it, and we just thought that we would do our part,” Roth said. “It’s Thursday night, and the money will go to the cancer society for whatever they want to use it for. We’re not expecting to raise a lot, but we’re just trying it our first time and see what happens.”
There will be t-shirts for sale, and each team attending will be selling baked goods as well. There will be a remembrance lap around the track as well during the meet to remember anyone with or who had cancer.
Thursday’s meet will be at Case Field with field events at 4, and running at 4:30 P.M.
