The #14 Mid-Prairie girl’s soccer team had no problem with Cedar Valley Conference Rival West Liberty, defeating the Comets by the 10 goal mercy rule in 63 minutes Monday night in Wellman. The Hawks got the scoring started in the first minute when Ali Riggan found the back of the net, in the fourth Meghan Redlinger scored the first goal of her hat trick and found the back of the net again in the fifth minute. Riggan would score again in the eighth minute, giving Mid-Prairie a 4-0 lead before the crowd had settled in their seats. Cassidy Bontrager put one by the keeper in the 18th minute followed by Taylor Hershberger in the 19th minute to make the score 6-0 Golden Hawks at the half.
The second half was more of the same as Redlinger completed her hat trick in the 48th minute with a score. She spoke afterward about her offensive performance.
“We just had to play direct a lot, so that helped us,” Redlinger said. “We’ve been practicing a lot with our midfield and just having good touches, and that has helped us out a lot I think.”
In the 51st minute Hershberger scored her second followed by a Kattie Redlinger goal in the 55th minute. Renee Buckwalter capped the match with the clinching 10th goal in the 63rd minute. With the win Mid-Prairie is now 1-1 on the year.
