A waiver request discussed at Monday’s Mid-Prairie School Board meeting is being sent to the state’s Department of Education. School Board President Jim Hussey explains they want to start school two weeks before Labor Day, as opposed to the states recommendation that school begin one week before. He says it may be more difficult to receive the waiver this year due to increased pressure to start on the recommended date. Hussey adds the main reason for an earlier start is that students tend to learn less in June.
