On a miserable weather night the Mid-Prairie boys golf team hosted a Cedar Valley Conference quadrangular at Blue Top Ridge Golf Course in Riverside. Despite the rough conditions Mid-Prairie carded some of their best scores of the year en route to a team score of 198 to take third in the event. Durant won the meet with a team score of 180, West Branch was second at 185 and Iowa City Regina fourth at 212. Leading the Golden Hawks were Paul Hawbaker with his 44 and Trever Owens with his 48, both are the first sub 50 rounds the Hawks have had this year. After the meet Owens talked about his day on the course.

“Getting the ball in the fairway is easier said than done, but if I had the ball in the fairway it makes for an easier shot all around,” Owens said. “The second hole I played was a Par 5, and I had a couple of good shots and I birdied it, I’d say that was probably the best hole.”

Head Coach Nate Strabala also spoke about his team’s overall performance

“We finally had some kids shoot in the 40’s, Paul Hawbaker shot a 44, by far the best score that we’ve had all year it’s nice to see that come from a freshmen,” Strabala said. “Overall I think that we are getting better, we’re still definitely not where we want to be, [but] we’re progressing in the right direction.”

The Mid-Prairie boys and girls are both back in conference action tonight at Tipton.
