A national community service organization currently has a group stationed in Louisa County. The National Civilian Community Corps or NCCC branch of Americorps involves volunteers, between the ages of 18 and 24, doing a variety of projects across the country.

According to volunteer Maryann Walbert, during their time in the county they’ve done environmental education in local schools on topics such as bird adaptation and water quality, controlled burns, and they’ve planned an Earth Day Workday volunteering event at the Virginia Grove Recreation Area for Saturday, April 20th.

During their time in southeast Iowa, they’ve worked closely with Louisa County Conservation.
