A unique year-long project will be showcased tonight at Kalona Elementary. Mrs. Bell’s 2nd Grade Class participated in the Traveling Teddies social studies project, where students get to pick up to 9 destinations for a stuffed bear to travel. Bell says the bears are sent to out of state family friends and relatives. She explains the recipient notifies the class when the bear has arrived, takes a picture, and adds something to the box the bear travels with.

Bell says information is sent with the bear that goes over what the students are studying. She says for example a soil sample was added, while they were studying soil in science.

An open house is being held from 5 to 6:30 at Kalona Elementary for families and anyone else who is interested in learning more about the project.
