The Riverside Urban Renewal Area will be expanded to include the city’s downtown. A public hearing is being held during the Riverside City council’s first meeting in May, where they’ll amend, renew and add the downtown. The urban renewal area is funded by Tax Increment Financing, which allows cities to use property taxes intended for county governments and school districts to improve infrastructure. The city hopes to improve the sidewalks in the downtown area in order to meet ADA standards. With this expansion, the Urban Renewal Plan will cover the entire city.
