Today is Arbor Day in Iowa, a day dedicated to planting trees. The Washington Tree Committee makes that its goal year round, planting or giving away 9,000 trees since its inception 23 years ago. Chair of the committee, Marde McConnell, says, in addition to planting trees, they spread awareness and educate people on the importance of trees.
In honor of Arbor Day, committee members went out to the new wastewater plant with local boy scouts to plant trees.
