The 0-2 Washington boy’s soccer team plays Fairfield, at Fairfield tonight.

The Demons dropped their last game to Mid-Prairie and were held scoreless, and are hoping to fix that tonight with their first conference game of the season.

Fairfield is 2-2, losing their season opener to Centerville, then beating Pella and Oskaloosa and finally losing to Mt. Pleasant.

They have scored eight goals this season and let in nine, with Roan Bachar having four of his team’s goals, along with two assists. Austin Lauderman is also dangerous with three goals this season.

Demon head coach Steven Caulk said he knows the history between Fairfield and Washington gives the edge to Fairfield in this game, but if the defense can stay strong, he thinks the Demons have a chance.

“They are a pretty strong team, they certainly defeated us pretty handedly last year, we’re hoping to turn that around this year,” Caulk said. “We have been focusing quite a bit on, shoring up our defense and making sure our players can run for 80 minutes, so I am hoping [today] that we can put in a really strong performance, or at least kind of shut things down for them, and with any luck put a few balls in the net and score a few goals for our side.”

The 1-2 girls will also play Fairfield tonight, they are coming off the mercy rule against them after playing state ranked Mid-Prairie.

The Fairfield girls are 1-1-1, after beating Centerville, losing to Pella and tying Mt. Pleasant. Their leading scorer is Kayla Septer with two goals on the year.

Tonight’s girl’s game is at Fairfield with kick off at 5:30 with the boys to follow.
