The City of Washington was recognized this week by Alliant Energy at the 2013 Iowa Energy Summit for its commitment to increasing energy efficiency. A 2012 Excellence in Energy Efficiency Award for incorporating energy-saving projects and technology, such as the new treatment facility was given to the city.

Mayor Sandra Johnson reportedly said, “The new treatment facility is a much bigger operation than the previous facility, and the operational savings from the energy-efficiency efforts that Alliant Energy helped to make possible will help to hold down operational costs for the life of the facility.”

The City anticipates saving 4.7 million kilowatt-hours in annual energy savings.
