Jacob Thorius, Washington County Engineer, says that April’s flooding impacted both gravel and paved roads in the county. He says that shoulder work on paved roads and a repair for a box culvert had to be done.
Further, he explains that his budget will be impacted due to the necessary repairs and it is believed that FEMA will not declare the area a federal disaster area which would qualify the area for funding assistance. He estimates that approximately $70,000 worth of damage was done to the paved roads in the county and that $30,000 worth of damage occurred on the gravel road system. He adds it will impact services for the year but is unsure as to what capacity at this time.
