Due to Iowa’s above-average precipitation recently, some Iowa cattle producers may be able to get some additional grazing from cover crops planted last fall, according to the Iowa Cattleman’s Association. The organization suggests producers speak with their crop insurance providers to know which rules apply and how to get permission to allow to hay or graze fields until May 22.

USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service lists approximately 100,000 acres of cover crops planted last year and only 5,000 in Iowa in 2009.
