The Washington Fairgrounds will be a little bit greener, the board voted to install three arrays of solar panels to produce electricity.  Don Lewis, with the fair board, explains that the panels will produce about 61,900 kilowatt hours of electricity per year and previously approximately 71,000 kilowatt hours of electricity per year was used in the locations that the panels will power.

The total project cost is $130,000 but with rebates from Alliant energy for $49,400, the net cost of the project is $81,000 and the board is actively seeking donations.

The company installing the solar panels hopes to have them in place before the fair to help offset electricity costs of this fair and to be able to educate fair goers about solar energy.
