Pressure canners with dial-type pressure gauges can be tested for accuracy at the Washington County Extension Office. Ahead of the canning season, canner lids, lids only, can be dropped off at the extension office from 9 to 11 a.m. on June 3rd and 17th for free testing. The pressure gauge, vents and openings in the lid will be checked for functionality. Weighted or rocker-type pressure regulators cannot be adjusted and therefore do not need to be tested.
The extension office recommends pressure canner gauges be tested annually.
