IMS Grabs A Win from Highland and the Elements

Rainy and cold weather didn’t stop the IMS soccer team from getting back to their winning way last night, beating Highland in overtime 3-2.

Highland struck first, with a goal that was helped by the swirling wind, but IMS would tie it up quickly when Dillon Bender set up Justin Boller to make the score 1-1.

Highland used the wind again kicking a long shot that dropped it over Joel Shetlers hands to put Highland up 2-1, IMS responded quickly when Enrique Sanchez was knocked to the ground in the box and got the team a penalty kick, in which Dillon Bender put into the back of the net.

The game then stalled until they went to extra time and the weather continued to get worse. Highland made a lot of good attacks at IMS, but it was IMS who had a shot from Nicholas Yoder that bounced off the goalie and Bender finished up.

Head coach Marcus Miller said his team could use a practice for multiple reasons, but the weather may not cooperate before their next match.

“We have things to work on, a lot of little fundamental and basic things, it’s getting everybody healthy, and we have a couple of days off here for a change, and then next week, we see some tough teams coming up in Burlington Notre-Dame, West Liberty, Columbus and Mid-Prairie, so those aren’t going to be easy games by any stretch of the imagination, so we’re going to have to clean up our passing, how we communicate with each other out on the field and some of those types of things that you deal with as the season goes on,” Miller said.

IMS moves to 10-3 overall and 7-1 in conference play. They will play again Monday for senior night while hosting Burlington Notre-Dame.
