IMS Soccer finished second in the Southeast Iowa Superconference tournament this weekend.

After beating Danville on Friday, they played Highland on Saturday, which head coach Marcus Miller said gave them a hard time last time, and would do so again.

IMS had some success in the first half, getting a penalty kick that Dillon Bender put over the Highland goalie’s head, and then another goal from Kirby Shetler to take a 2-0 lead at half.

In the second half, Highland came on strong, but IMS went up 3-0 as Peyton Thompson deflelcted a ball into the back of the net. Up 3-0, Highland pushed harder and scored two goals, but could get no closer, falling to IMS 3-2.

In the Championship, IMS faced No. 5 Holy Trinity, with a quick turn around from Highland, fatigue set in, and IMS struggled offensively, Holy Trinity scored the only two goals of the game, one in the first and the second in the second. IMS fell in the championship 2-0.

Head coach Marcus Miller said this is a game that happened, and his kids need to see it as nothing more than that.

“Sometimes when you have a relatively successful season and you lose a game that you are frustrated with the weather and the fatigue, it’s easy to get down on yourself, so part of it is your want to learn from your mistake, but you don’t want to let it get you down,” Miller said. “We have a chance to come back tonight, we travel down to Columbus, so keep your heads up, play hard, and keep doing the things we need to do.”

IMS will visit Columbus today, and is 13-5 on the season.
