After years of fundraising, the Kalona Volunteer Fire Department has gathered the necessary funds to purchase a new fire truck. According to Fire Chief Steve Yotty it took 5 years of fundraising and a $250,000 Washington County Riverboat grant to generate the $569,000 necessary to replace a thirty year old engine. He adds they’ve placed the order with Alexis Fire Equipment out of Illinois, and should get the fire engine in about 360 days.
