The Mid-Prairie girls golf team left little doubt as to who was the top team in the Cedar Valley Conference Wednesday night in Muscatine. The Golden Hawks posted a team score of 392 en route to the overall conference championship, beating second place West Branch by 14 strokes. The Hawks weren’t done with the team trophy, they also placed five golfers on the first or second team all conference squads led by individual conference champion Madeline Gent who fired a low round 93 for the 18 hole event. She spoke after the meet about her performance.
“It was pretty straightforward that it was nothing harder than we play at at home, so that was nice knowing going into it,” Gent said. “I played with a really great group, and I hope that can just push me through our home invite on Friday and the first regionals on Monday.”
Mid-Prairie was keyed by a good start, holding an 11 shot lead at the nine hole turn. Head Coach Tracy McArtor talked about his teams start and the great performance from the entire roster.
“Maddie and a couple of kids came in with sub 50 rounds, and it is always good to post that at the turn, and then a couple of them came back and shot that on the back nine too, so they did a great job, and to have five kids on an all-conference team I don’t think I’ve ever seen that before, so it’s nice to have,” McArtor said. “I think if they can continue to do that going into districts next week or regionals I think that is a good number to shoot for, I think anything sub-400 will bode well for us.”
Mid-Prairie will next be in action Friday night when they host their invitational at Kalona.
