Mock Wreck at Washington High School

Emergency personnel put a student in an ambulance. The student portrayed a prom goer who was killed in a car accident in which drugs and alcohol were involved.

A mock two-vehicle fatal car accident with high school students was held yesterday morning near the Washington High School.Students watched the drill as emergency personnel worked to extract passengers from the vehicles while an officer demonstrated a field sobriety test and breath test with the teenage driver.

Special investigator Shawn Ellingson says it is important this close to prom to show students that destructive decisions made today can permanently affect lives and hopes that this helps prevent students from making poor decisions. In the mock accident one student was killed and another paralyzed.

Following the accident, students went to an assembly, in which they witnessed the aftermath, including a memorial service and courtroom activities that resulted in the driver being found guilty of vehicular homicide after being under the influence of alcohol and K2 during the wreck.
