The April weather of rain and cool temperatures did not aid in Morel hunting, but warm weather recently has led to the mushrooms being found throughout the county. Winfield resident Greg Lemke advises those looking for mushrooms that they are starting to grow on the northern slopes and to look near dead elm trees that are beginning to lose their bark. He adds he found approximately six pounds of morels Wednesday evening.
