Pekin schools did not hold class today due to a power outage. Justin Foss with Alliant Energy explains that it is believed at this time that debris struck two wires near the school, grounding them out which caused the transformer at the school to short circuit because it was not getting all of the power that it needs. Crews are currently working to fix power in that area and three, possibly four, transformers need to be replaced as well as some underground wiring.
He states that it is believed a machine shed that was in the area became debris in Sunday night’s storm and struck the power lines.
