The Kalona City Council reviewed a preliminary burning ordinance at their meeting Monday. The ordinance would phase out burn barrels by May 10th, 2014 and also limit burning to April, May, October, and November from 8am to 8pm. The council discussed the possibility of allowing smaller burn barrels, which city staff will research for the next council meeting. Kalona Mayor Ken Herington says once the ordinance is approved, it will have three readings with opportunities for public comment.
