Should a school resource police officer be in the Washington Community Schools was the topic of discussion at the school board’s meeting last night. Superintendent Mike Jorgenson explained to the board that a three-year federal grant with an application deadline of May 22 is available to help fund an officer in the schools.
After some discussion among board members about the benefits and negative aspects of either a police officer or a behavioral interventionist no action was taken, in part due to a lack of quorum. Two board members expressed interest in seeking a behavioral interventionist instead of a police officer.
