The assessor’s office has updated commercial property values in parts of Washington County. The changes made on the 16th of April increased property value for many lots in Kalona and Riverside. County Assessor Christy Tinnes says the goal was to get the properties closer to market value.

She says past sales have shown that commercial properties were being sold above their assessed value, in some cases by $50,000.

Tinnes says if you disagree with the new value, you can contact the assessor’s office or stop by to pick up a petition. Petitions are due by Monday.
