Tonight the Southeast Iowa Superconference will hold their conference track and field championships at Columbus Junction if the weather holds out.
The Southeast Conference moved their meet ahead to Tuesday because of the cold weather forecast for today.
Columbus Junction’s track is different than most, as it ends in the middle of the stands and not where most tracks due, and some coaches are aware of that and have had their kids practice, including WACO head boys coach Shannon Rugg.
“They have a comma line finish that is actually right in the middle of the straightaway, in front of the grand stands, so it’s something that we haven’t ran on in the last four or five years, so it will be something to go over a lot in practice, because usually you have an idea of where you are, whether you start your kick at the 100 or the 200, well that’s always at the beginning of the straightaway or at the end of the straightaway, well now it’s going to be at the middle of the straightaway, or the middle of the back stretch is where the 200 is,” Rugg said. “I’ll have to talk about that with the kids to figure our where their land marks are that they kind of use.”
The only races that will start in a normal spot will be the 100, shuttle hurdle and 100/110 meter hurdles.
Tonight’s SEISC conference meet begins at 4:30 at Columbus Junction.
