Huskies Take Conference Battle

Posted: Saturday, June 29th, 2013 at 8:29 am

The IMS offense came into Friday night red hot but a combination of good pitching and defense from Highland helped the Huskies to a 3-2 win at home. The Huskies struck first with a pair of runs in the third inning as Derrick Stewart and Talon McFarland came in to score on RBI hits in the inning by McFarland and Colin Sexton. IMS found an answer with two runs of their own in the fourth when Dallas Nye and Kirby Shetler came in to score on an RBI hit by pitch from Tyler Messer and a sac fly from Brent Brenneman.

Highland would push across the winning run in the fifth inning with a two out rally. Stewart doubled with two down and McFarland cracked an RBI single to bring him around. IMS escaped a bases loaded, one out jam in the sixth to set up a comeback attempt in the seventh but it wasn’t to be, they would get the tying and go ahead runs on base with two out hits from Cameron Gingerich and Reggie Hostetler but Brase would induce a fly ball to right to end the game. After the game Head Coach Danny Hershberger spoke about the chances his team had during the night.

“We had guys get on base, we had a couple of chances, but we couldn’t quite get that hit that we needed at right time, but we did a good job of giving ourselves a chance right here at the end,” Hershberger said.

Brase pitched the complete game surrendering two runs on six hits, allowing one walk and striking out four. Gingerich took the loss going six innings allowing eight hits, three runs, striking out eight and hitting three batters. IMS is now 10-13 on the year 7-8 in conference play while Highland improves to 5-16 overall.3-9 in conference play.
