New rules for burning within city limits were approved at Kalona’s City Council meeting Monday. The third and final reading of the ordinance amendment limits burning to daylight hours Thursday, Friday and Saturday during April, May, September and October. City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh says those changes are effective July 1st. In addition, burn barrels taller than 24 inches will be banned beginning May of next year.
