The Demon baseball team will play host to No. 6 Benton Community tonight.

Washington is 6-7 on the year, and have lost five in a row coming into tonight’s double header.

They are hitting .250 as a team and have scored 40 runs this season. Jake Dickinson is the best bat in the lineup with a .364 average and two RBI’s, while Jacob Green is hitting .344 with 12 RBI’s. On the pitching staff, the team ERA has stayed low while Elijah Wood continues to do his best work with 29 K’s.

Benton is 16-5 this year and is hitting .274 as a team. The best bat for Benton is Mitch Moser who is hitting .478 and 24 RBI’s, Moser’s average eclipses even the second best bat in Jordan MacFarland who has a .362, but has more RBI’s with 26. Their pitching staff has a combined ERA of 2.25 and 138 strikeouts to just 54 walks, and have five pitchers they could throw, but Jacob Volz is the best arm with a 1.01 ERA, 21 strikeouts and opponents hit just .119 off of him, Moser also holds up as a good arm with a 1.13 ERA, 49 strikeouts and opponents hit just .146 off of him.

Demon head coach Nathan Miller said this week is about challenging his team with a lot of quality teams and pitching.

“The opportunity to play against good teams, quality teams, which is only going to help us get better, and I look at a lot of the pitchers we’ve faced this year and we’ve pretty much faced everybody’s best, in every single game we’ve played we’ve faced everybody’s aces, their number or if it was a double header their number two,” Miller said.
