The Washington downtown area has been placed on the National Register of Historic Places after a two year research and nomination process. Mary Patterson with the Washington Historic Preservation Commission says that this will help building owners in the downtown area because they are now able to receive tax credits and have access to grants that are specifically meant for historic preservation of buildings. In total 84 buildings in the 11 block area are included in the register.
