In a Southeast Iowa Superconference softball match up Monday night in Columbus IMS posted the only runs beating the Wildcats in a pitchers dual 2-0. Columbus mounted the first offensive threat, loading the bases in their first at bat but were unable to breakthrough against IMS Senior Laura Hochstetler. IMS had nothing going early against Columbus ace Megan Pretz, as Pretz recorded the first seven outs of the game via the strike out.

Base running errors robbed Columbus of scoring opportunities in the third and fifth innings, while IMS ran into a costly out in the fourth. IMS would breakthrough for the only runs of the contest in the sixth when Naomi Miller cracked a one out single, Demi Brezina reached on an error. Jacayla Litwiller drove in Miller on a sac fly and Hochstetler helped her own cause with an RBI double, driving in Brezina. Columbus would put the tying runs on base in the bottom of the sixth but would not scoring. Hostedler was the winning pitcher throwing the three hit complete game shut out while striking out seven. Pretz took the loss, going the distance and striking out 10. Columbus is now 3-6 on the year as IMS improves to 2-2 overall and in conference play. IMS will next be in action tonight at Winfield-Mt. Union, you can hear all of the action tonight on KCII with pregame at 7 and first pitch at 7:30 live from Winfield.
