The Lone Tree baseball team faces off against Wapello tonight.

The Lions are 3-4 after some offensive struggles, but put 11 on the board against WMU on Friday, and eight against Belle Plaine on Saturday.

The team is hitting just .225 with Ty Robertson and Riley Stumpf leading the way hitting .333. Pitching wise Lone Tree’s numbers are great, with Andy Dodson having a 1.14 ERA, 46 K’s and opponents hitting just .098 off of him, and Erik Murry having a 2-2 record with 29 strikeouts, a 2.10 ERA and opponents hitting .150.

Head coach Steve Gibson said his team just needed some quality practice, and is happy that the offense has come around.

“I think we just needed some good practice time, and that is exactly what we got. Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday the weather cooperated and we got on the field and had some really good practices, Winfield- Mt. Union came in and we ended up 10 running them in five innings, it was good to see our hitting come around which I’ve been waiting for, I think everybody has been waiting for, it was good to see that, everybody hit the ball hard, and we only had two strikeouts, so that was another thing we cut down on,” Gibson said.

Wapello is 9-4 this year and is hitting .308 with 92 runs this year. Their offense is led by Gage Carpenter with a .455 average, six home runs and 14 RBI’s on the season. On the pitching side of things, Blake Odle is the top pitcher with a 4-0 record, 25 innings pitched, with a .56 ERA, 37 strikeouts and opponents are hitting .211.
