Over $1.1 billion has been investing in buildings in Main Street Iowa districts across the state, which annually produces over $10.8 million in property tax revenues for county governments, according to a study by Donovan Rypkema of Place Economics. Sara Sedrakula, executive director of Main Street Washington, says that in 25 of the organization’s 26 years the rate of net new business growth in Main Street Iowa districts exceeded the rate of the U.S. as a whole. This year the local organization is celebrating its 5th year in the community.
