Swedesburg will celebrate the summer solstice and pay homage to an old world tradition tomorrow evening. Norma Lindeen with the Swedish Heritage Museum, says, in honor of the big Midsummer celebrations in Sweden, they hold Midsummer in Swedesburg annually.
She explains Swedesburg was founded by a group of Swedish farmers in the 1860s.
Lindeen adds that each year they choose a descendent of one of the families who originally settled in the area. Those that are chosen decorate something similar to a maypole.
The Midsummer celebration begins at 7 at the museum. Returning to perform this year is the Scandinavian Quartet from the Royal Music Academy in Stockholm.
