Area emergency personnel responded to a fire north of Wellman Sunday afternoon. According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, at about 4pm it was reported a chicken house on Fir Avenue was fully engulfed in flames. Wellman Fire, Wellman QRS, Kalona Fire, South English Fire, Washington County Ambulance, and Washington County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene. Alliant Energy and Boyse Excavating also responded. The fire was extinguished around three hours later.
