Severe Weather Yesterday

Yesterday the KCII Severe Weather Action Team went into action twice. The team covered a tornado warning for Washington County from 2 to 3:15 p.m. Tornado warnings were issued for southeastern Washington, northern Henry, all of Louisa and central Johnson counties. A tornado was confirmed near the City of Solon. Sirens did sound for the warnings in the cities of Washington, Riverside and Ainsworth.

Also, severe thunderstorm warnings were issued for Washington, Louisa, Keokuk, Henry, Johnson and Iowa counties at various points throughout the afternoon. Reports of 50 to 60 mile per hour winds were received. And it was reported in Brighton that a tree fell into power lines and blocked part of Highway 78/Fountain Street. From Batavia, reports were received of trees down with power lines and there was tree damage near the City Hall in Wellman.

The first round of SWAT was for tornado warnings in southern Iowa and northern Keokuk counties that began at 1:17 and expired at 1:45 p.m.
