Next week Kalona city officials will begin discussing a sanitary sewer project. City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh says the recent rain has made it evident something substantial needs to be done to address infiltration issues. Next week Schlabaugh will meet with the finance committee and their engineer to look at ways to fund the project that’s expected to cost around $700,000. He says the sewer cleaning and lining will be done in the areas that need it the most, primarily south of Highway 22.
He expects them to do the bid letting for the project this fall, when they’d be able to get the best price, and begin the project in March of next year.
