The Washington City Council is awaiting the county’s decision on zoning before moving forward on a project. At Wednesday’s city council meeting, an agreement with the Iowa Department of Transportation to develop an airport land use and zoning ordinance at the Washington Muncipal Airport was approved.

The council decided to delay begining the project, because if the board of superviors’ rescind county zoning, the city’s boundary will extend two miles and thus impact the area of land considered for this project. The Iowa DOT will be responsible for 85-percent of the cost and the airport will pay the remaining 15-percent.
