Crop progress in southeast Iowa is well behind last year. Dan Berdo, a Washington County farmer, says thats due to the late planting this spring. According to the National Agricultural Statistics Service, only 9% of corn has tasseled. That figure was around 85% at this time last year.
Meanwhile, fields that saw surplus moisture this spring are now being impacted by the dry weather, although, the area is faring better than most of the state.
