The Iowa Department of Public Health announced yesterday an updated number of reported cases of cyclospora in Iowa to 71 cases. At this time Washington County has no reported cases while Keokuk and Johnson counties each have one case; Linn County now has 30 cases.

Washington County Director of Public Health Danielle Pettit-Majewski explains what cyclospora is an intestinal parasite, which causes similar to flu-like symptoms and watery diarrhea that lasts on average 57 days.

As of Thursday, the source of the outbreak has yet to be determined, but the investigation indicates that fresh vegetables are the likely source.
