The Washington Demon baseball team hosts Fairfield tonight for a conference double header.

Washington played Pella last night, and the last time they played Fairfield lost both games, 3-2 and 5-0.

The Demons are hitting .246 as a team and are led at the plate by Jacob Green with a .320 average and 18 RBI’s. On the pitching staff, Washington looks to their Junior ace Elijah Wood, with 35 innings pitched, a .8 ERA and 46 strikeouts, he is the top arm on the pitching staff that could see anyone from eighth graders Drake Brezina and Michael Gier to Senior Austin Witt, and have them all pitch effectively.

Fairfield is on a five game winning streak and coming off a big win against Mid-Prairie last night, and have a combined 37 runs as well. They are hitting .292 as a team and are led by the bat of Mason Ellis with a .435 average, 18 RBI’s and a homer. The best arm continues to be Joseph Hietpas with a 1.67 ERA and 66 K’s.

Demon head coach Nathan Miller said after the tough nine inning comeback loss to Pella last night, the key to tonight’s game is just getting back on the horse.

“I think it was a late night last night, we didn’t get back until 11:30, and it was a very difficult loss last night, a tough loss last night, so I think the key is getting back and rebounding, seeing a level of intensity that is right there at the start of the game, and maintaining that throughout the 14 innings that we’re going to play tonight,” Miller said.
